My recs... [May. 6th, 2008|03:26 pm]
alias recs

1. Graffiti by darkstar - Because it can not be said enough! Best fiction I've read by far.

The greatest tragedy of surviving is that we are forced to live in the
aftermath of those who survived with us.

2. Denouement by vega - "They write their own tragedies. Now the curtain falls, the play's done, and the world ends here."
This is the way the world ends
Not with a bang but a whimper.
-T.S. Eliot.

3. The Elements by Bella Lumina - After an angry separation, Vaughn and Sydney's lives come crashing together again.
The hours she spends in the office plod by; she meets with Barnett, takes a lie detector test, talks with Davenport and other officers she's never seen before, and takes another tests. They videotape an interview -- she wonders briefly if it could be found someday like her mother's taped interview -- and tell her that she can go home. It's all cold, impersonal, and proper.

4. Compline by akatolstoy - alternate Season 2—“If insight into one’s own destiny, much less the destiny of all of humankind, can be gained, it is done slowly and torturously, at great cost, and more often than not, understood only in hindsight. If one wants to know the heart of another person, the journey is even more arduous, the process of discovery of far greater importance than the knowledge derived.” Sydney, Vaughn, Jack, Dixon, Francie and Will deal with consequences of Irina’s reappearance and the revelation of a second prophecy.

5. Divergences by Em Mindelan - "There are two ways that this story can end, two different, diverging futures, two different worlds to be lived in. He can choose the woman he is with. Or he can choose the woman he loves."

6. Bind Them With Fury by Yahtzee - This picks up immediately after "Before the Flood" and then goes off in its own direction with little regard for spoilers. None are included in the story. Will post a chapter a day until the story is done.

(I hadn't seen canon mixed with fiction so well until I read "Bind them with fury." A new standard for Action!fic)

quick rec [Jul. 10th, 2004|01:04 am]

Something everyone's probably read, but best to post it here anyway...
Graffiti by darkstar.

After the last memory of the last word, I will tell you this:

The greatest tragedy of surviving is that we are forced to live in the aftermath of those who survived with us.

But how could I make you understand this?

Hands down my favorite Alias story. Sydney/Vaughn, AU, character death, angst.

1. circumstance by agent otter.
i don't even know what to say about this. it was published about a year ago, takes place in the future, and is sydney/vaughn at it's finest. incredibly well-written and just a pleasure to read. i think the first line of it describes it best: "Time is the longest distance between two places." -- Tennessee Williams

2. the domestication of a wild rose by cognacgirl.
i read this recently (after i started reading fic again) and i was absolutely astounded by it. it's a sark/sydney story, and there's a splash of simon in there, too. takes place in the future, and is also described as au. either way, i find it incredibly believable, which is the appeal of well-written sarkney -- the fact that someone's able to make something that's so impossible, given the circumstances, believeable. back to this one, though...it's very well written and it keeps you captivated. even if you think sarkney makes the baby jesus cry, i think you should give this one a chance. the author is amazing -- i absolutely adore her work.

and awesome idea for a community -- i never read much fic because it's so hard to sift through everything to get to the good stuff. this makes reading that much easier for lazy bums like m'self.

Was talking to Kira and she was talking about this community so I thought I'd pop in and give a rec! I read Graffiti by darkstar around a year ago and it's still such a lovely dark piece of fiction.
Summary: Sydney and Vaughn attempt to reconstruct their lives after barely surviving SD-6's discovery of their identities.
Enjoy it! It's one of the best stories I've ever read :)

Some uplifting romantic comedy fics for you. Sorry they're all S/V, but, well, that's what thebookstore and I read (yes, this is a collaborative effort ;) ).

Guess What? - Camille
Easily one of my favorite Alias fics ever written. Not too long, either. A great pick me up.

Operation: Domesticity - Crunkn8r
Coming in a close second to Guess What? Totally cute and fun and...ooooo....*starts reading again*

Muy Mono - Diana
"Stupid funny", those are her words. :)

First rec! *EEEEE!* [Feb. 24th, 2004|04:15 am]

[Current Mood |awake]

Hi, guys, my first time posting here, but as I see some familiar faces, I'm feeling cosey and home! ;)

Today I will actually rec just one fic, and an old one, for that matter: Compline, by akatolstoy. I've been running away from Fanfiction.net like it's a plague (well, it is), but this is just posted there, I believe, and I lost a couple of the latest updates because of that. Anyway, I am just happy because she is writing again! This is R-rated (nothing too big, though), S/V, post ATY (I love post ATY fics), with lots of Jack, Weiss, Irina, the whole gang, full of intrigues and setbacks and the regular power struggle and games. Great writing and very interesting plot!

Thanks to Kira for setting this up, it's a great idea! My first rec:

Kissed Me Like That by pennylane
Pg-13-ish (strong themes) / Lauren Pov / finished / S3

This is a wonderful fic. Not your typical fic. The style is more like poetry, has such a visual quality to it. I was just blown away when I read it. it stood out to me in the jumble of S/V fics on Sd-1.com. Such talent, such angst. If you enjoy it leave her some feedback, I know she was kinda dismayed by the reaction that this reseaved. I just come back to it, it grows on you everytime you read it.

Welcome to Alias Recs, a community for all fics in the Alias fandom which are good enough to rec.

All ships/genres are welcome. Please tag NC-17 and slash fics accordingly.

Please provide a link to the chapter/fic you're rec'ing, along with a brief summary and your own personal opinion, if you can.

Do NOT post chapters to fics you are currently writing.

Crossover fics are allowed, but stay within the Alias fandom.

No off topic messages. We don't want to clutter up people's friends pages with things other than recs.

Be nice. No negative recommendations.

Other than that, have fun! We all need something to read!
